Three Things Thursday: Coloring, Coffee, & Cooking

Welcome back to Three Things Thursday, a way to fill your blogs and social media with the happy!

Three Things Thursday is a simple concept that everyone is encouraged to play along with. All it requires is listing three (or more!) things that are making your life awesome. Please note! The three things you choose each week do not need to be big, huge, mighty, impressive things. In fact, I think it’s much better to focus on smaller, sillier things…because focusing on those little bits of joy and the gigglesnorts that they bring…well, that’s where day-to-day contentment lives, I believe.

So, how do you participate? Easy as falling off a log! Whip up a blog post about three things that are making you smile…then share it on the link up in this post. Don’t want to do a whole blog post? Feel free to post some pictures on Facebook or Instagram! If you tag me in your pictures, I 100% promise to give them appropriate love.❤

Just one more thing! Three Things Thursday posts actually don’t need to be done on Thursdays! I leave the link up active for the whole week every week…so you can be grateful on your own schedule.🙂

Okay, here we goooooo…

Grace finished up her finals on Monday, and that meant that the “kids” had a little goofing off time that afternoon. (She had a two-hour final and a four-hour block to complete it…and that leaves two hours for silly time.) I don’t know if I was more amused about the things she took for entertainment or the fact that the 15-year-old (Grace) borrowed the coloring books, crayons, and Hello Kitty blanket from the 42-year-old (me). 😉

John and I had a whirlwind of errands to run last weekend, but we did make time to stop in at a favorite restaurant for iced Vietnamese coffee (with condensed milk, of course!) and subs. (If you’ve never had a Vietnamese sub, I really suggest that you tend to that…they are delicious!)

My grandmother was an amaaaaazing cook, and my sister and I have often lamented that we didn’t have any of those wonderful recipes. But then! My sister was going through some old papers the other day, and guess what she found?!? Yep, some of those recipes…complete with sauce stains and Grandma’s notes and everything! (Needless to say, I received a very excited phone call from my sister!) 😀

Now, my blog friends old and new, it’s your turn! Click on that little graphic below to share your own three things that are bringing you joy (or leave your list in the comments).🙂

Old recipes are fantastic! I’ve found having made several in the past few years that they don’t always turn out the way you remember the first time out….. old school cooking is all about “tasting” while you go and often more gets added that isn’t written down. My grandmother made a Jewish Apple Cake that was to die for, and it took me months and several tries to get it right, her secret ingredient was nutmeg (it wasn’t on the recipe) as I discovered. Now I can nail it every time and my Dad asks for one every May for his birthday now 🙂

You’re so very right…I’m afraid these recipes are just a starting point for getting to Grandma’s delicious food. Some of the recipes didn’t even have instructions…just a list of ingredients…I’m thinking some interesting creations may come out of those. 😉

Those recipes are a beautiful find. Even if you never make them, they are a treasure, especially with the stains and all. Grace is such a delight!
I have been enjoying so many exciting games of tennis from the Australian Open. There have been some beauties this year. But I have been especially delighted that 5 out of the 8 semi-finalists are over 30!
