Weekend Coffee Share: Brie & Jam Tartlets

Good morning, my beautiful blog friends! I hope your weekend is off to an amazing start, and I’m so happy that you’ve stopped by for a chat. 🙂

It’s chilly here, so we’ll probably want to snuggle into the couches…go ahead and grab a seat and a throw blanket (try to ignore the light “essence of dog” aroma attached to that throw, please) while the dinosaurs bring in the coffee and treats that they’ve prepared for us. (Those dinosaurs sure do love to entertain!)

Just look at the tartlets they’ve made for us!

Mmmmmm, yummy! Because those dinosaurs are made of pure awesome, they’ll be sharing their recipe at the bottom of this post. 🙂

Around here, we’ve had another really school-focused week. It’s a bit hard not to when one semester finishes up and a new one starts…life becomes all about studying and finals and those last minute details…right up until it switches over to reading every single word of every single syllabus, signing permission slips for various and assorted things, and compiling lists of needed supplies. (Fortunately, this semester’s supply list is quite small!)

So, now we’re into the new semester, and Grace is quite excited about most of her classes. Pottery, Civics, and English all have her twittering excitedly about creating things and debating current issues and reading nifty books. (I’m loving that Maus is on her required reading list!) I think she could do without her required Multimedia Design class, but I suspect she’ll learn some handy stuff.

I won’t even go into the list of things I need to do as an active member of the PTSO Performing Arts committee…because I’m trying not to think about that too hard at the moment. 😉

Other than school stuff, it’s been business as usual around here…crafty stuff and science-y stuff and kitty stuff and house-y stuff…you know, stuff. 🙂

We did have a nice outing last night! Grace and I went to see the third-year theater students perform The History of Tom Jones, and it was quite enjoyable! (Okay, so technically that was also “school stuff,” but since we went for the pure joy of it -no obligations or responsibilities- I’m counting it as a fun outing.) 🙂

And what does the future week hold for us here at the nerd house? Well, mostly more of the same. Our Tuesday evening promises to be a bit of a train wreck (what is it with Tuesdays???) as we have the Poetry Out Loud competition, volunteering with the kitties, and a PTSO meeting all pretty much at the same time…we’re still pondering how we’re going to work that bit of magic. (Right now, my best guess is this: leave Poetry Out Loud a bit early, show up for kitties a bit early, and arrive at PTSO a bit late…and then go home and pass out.)

And next weekend? Well, that promises to be super-fun…it’s the next meeting of my Lady Gamers group. 😀 Twenty-four hours of glorious gaming and spending time with my favorite women…nice! We’re meeting at a different location than normal this time around, so I’m itching to see our new hotel arrangements and dining options. 🙂

Now tell me all about what you’ve been up to this past week! Anything exciting or unusual…or a pleasantly “normal” week? What about the week ahead? Anything nifty on the agenda?

Of course I’ve also been up to bloggity-blog-blogging this week…and making bloggity-blog plans for the future. 🙂

Tomorrow brings the real start to A Clean Life. I’ve been getting us all warmed up with planning and pondering and preparing, but tomorrow will be the start of doing. (If you need to get all caught up on A Clean Life, you can check out all previous posts HERE.) Yep, I’ll be sharing my cleaning lists and plans for you to follow along with…and we’ll all have the pretty, pretty, tidy houses! I’ll also be giving daily updates (tips, tricks, contests, motivation, etc.) on the Nerd in the Brain Facebook page, so if you’re looking for some strategies and motivation, join us there!

Looking for a silly bit of participation for Valentine’s Day? I still have some spots available for goofy Valentines! You can receive your very own cheap, silly Valentine from Nerd in the Brain…just go HERE for the super quick and simple sign up form. 😀

I’m also really pleased to be continuing some new series that I love…Three Things Thursday, Adventure Snacks, and STEAM activities and reviews (that last one is coming back on Tuesday) all make me so happy. 🙂

What sort of blogging fun have you been up to? Added anything new? Ditched anything you’re tired of? Got any big plans for additions or changes?

I am pondering another thing for the blog. Recently, I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of trash that we create here…and I’m shifting to cruelty-free, more environmentally friendly products for cosmetics and toiletries and house cleaning. I’ve considered adding some short reviews of these “nicer to the world” products…if y’all are interested in my thoughts and opinions (and perhaps a bit of science) about these things.

Let me know in the comments if you’d like to see reviews of these sorts of kinder, gentler products on the blog. 🙂

Now for that promised tartlet recipe! The dinosaurs really want you to try these, so they’ve made it so clicking the image of the recipe below will whoosh you away to a pdf version perfect for saving and/or printing. Those dinos…they think of everything. 😀

These things are so yummy…and they’re really nice if you pop some fresh fruit on top, too!

Want to see more of the yums we try around here? I have a Pinterest board for that!

Well, I have a busy day of teenager chauffeuring, hiking, gaming, and manning the concession booth at tonight’s performance of The History of Tom Jones, so I better scoot, but I do hope that you have a wonderful rest of your day.

And until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥

My kindergartener had no enrichment classes last week, so we checked off extra school work at home. She is moving up to the first grade ELA book. I had a couple hours with other women on Thursday where I got my hair and makeup did, while enjoying a glass of wine and some excellent chocolate-topped shortbread cookies. 🙂

      Sounds like a great week! 😀 (Chocolate-topped shortbread…mmmmmmm.)

I think “nicer to the world” product reviews and the science behind it might be something I would be interested in. Go for it!

Great! I’ll add them to the line up. 🙂
