Weekend Coffee Share: Grace’s Hot Cocoa

Hello! Welcome to the very first Coffee Share here on the new (new? revamped? reintroduced?) blog! I’m so excited to have you here…and I hope you’ll enjoy some of the changes to my Coffee Share format. 🙂

Changes?!?

Don’t worry. It’s nothing frightening at all. I’ll still be babbling your ears (eyes?) off and letting you know about the shenanigans and tomfoolery we get up to around here…but I’ll also be including a recipe for a yummy drink or treat each week. Because sharing recipes seems almost like a requirement for any self-respecting Southern woman engaged in socializing and coffee sipping, no? 😉 This week, I’ll be sharing Grace’s Hot Cocoa recipe. I’m not sure where the original recipe came from, but Grace has tweaked and tinkered with it until she has made it her own…and it is delicious. We pretty much don’t drink cocoa around here unless Grace makes it…she is our resident hot cocoa ninja. 😀 (She makes a mean spaghetti, too, but that’s an altogether different post.) You’ll find the recipe at the bottom of this post. Until you get there, let’s chat!

So, just what have I been up to over the past week? (Really, it’s been a couple of weeks since I lost a week in the Great Blog Transition of 2016.)

Well, of most recent interest is the snow that wasn’t. 😉 Until yesterday, the forecast said we would get 8″ to 11″ of snow overnight. Well, for the very southern tippy bit of North Carolina, that is quite a bit of snow! And while some areas near us did get magical amounts of snow, we got this:

Our 8 – 11 inches of snow that was supposed to happen last night is pretty underwhelming so far. 😉

Yeah, not exactly “magical.” 😉 To be fair, it did continue to snow until just a few minutes ago…and we did get approximately 3 more millimeters of accumulation. *sigh*

Our snow event was just a wee bit of a disappointment. I love, love, love snow, so I’m in a bit of a grumble-y mood about the whole thing. Since our temperatures next week will be back in the upper 60s, it’s not likely that we’ll have snow again in the immediate future…but who knows what February will bring? 🙂

What about you? Any glorious snow sparkling and twinkling on your lawn?

In other news, I have rekindled my love for blogging! It’s amazing how a few little (okay, big) changes can really put the spark back into something. Bringing my various blogs together into one “lifestyle” blog may not be the best move for SEO and conversion and money-making stuff, but it sure has made me happy to blog again…so win!

And I managed to identify one of the things that was a barrier for me with blogging…and fix it. As much as I adore taking pictures of things, I don’t much care for staging pictures and getting things jussssst right for featured images and whatnot. So I stopped messing with it. Enter the stock photos. Brilliant! While pictures within my posts are my own, I’ve stopped fretting about featured images and Pinterest graphics and whatnot. Nope. Someone else has already done that work for me…and done it better than I would have anyway…so why not take advantage of that??? 🙂

Now I just need to do something with that hot mess of a homepage. 😉

Speaking of blogging fun, I’ll be growing some fun things in petri dishes very soon…check out this post if you’d like to have a say about what icky things I test out. (And who wouldn’t want a say in that???)

And tomorrow I’ll be bringing you the next piece in A Clean Life. If you’d like to get all caught up on what we’ve done so far, you can take a peek at the Clean Life page.

Do you have any big (or small) blog plans in the works? Anything new you’re doing that you’re super-happy with? Anything driving you bonkers?

In day-to-day life news, we dealt with the whole “going back to work and school” thing for John and Grace this week. That all went pretty smoothly. They each had just over two weeks off, so they were ready to get back to it. Other than that, it’s been all about blogging and volunteering and attending PTSO meetings (and planning a huge event for that) and the usual plinking and puttering. 🙂

The week ahead promises to look pretty similar. Grace and I have a train wreck of a day coming up on Tuesday…we think we’ve managed to figure out a way for her to complete her homework while also attending the Relay for Life Kickoff Event and going to help take care of the kitties. (Why do these things always pile up all on one day?) It seems like a solid (though exhausting) plan, but we’ll see how it goes on Tuesday. 😉 Other than that monster of an evening and some volunteering for theater performances at Grace’s school over the weekend, things are looking pretty quiet for the week ahead.

What does your week look like? Anything fun or interesting or exciting….or just a nice, quiet week?

Well, though John and I can’t go on our usual Saturday walk (the park and the gym are closed due to inclement weather), we have a very busy day of game-playing and snuggling and snacking planned. 🙂

And, in light of that busy schedule, I’m going to share that cocoa recipe I promised and scoot to the living room…the Xbox beckons, and its call is strong. 😀

I do hope you enjoy the cocoa…clicking on the picture of the recipe should whisk you away to a PDF version for your printing pleasure. 🙂

Until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥

The peppermint cocoa is stimulating, as is the clean life blog. I am on a similar intention to clear out and clean out in both physical space and schedule. I like your clean ideas so far..including you need to know why (central issue, I believe). Good luck with it.

Agreed! If you don’t know why you’re aiming for something, it’s very difficult to stay focused and motivated…and not knowing your whys can lead to all sorts of icky feelings. Good luck with your cleaning out adventures!

We have snow! Once the roads are safe, I think I will venture out for the ingredients so I can make this hot cocoa recipe. It sounds amazing!

We just had a thin layer of icy snowy sort of stuff, but it stayed under freezing all day yesterday so it stuck around and no one could drive anywhere.

Yeah, some areas in our county are in the same situation.,..school is even delayed tomorrow because the ice hasn’t had a chance to melt. Fortunately, our driveway and road get full sunlight during the day, so things are pretty much dry and clear for us. Be careful if you have to drive…that ice can be sneaky!

I was wondering how come this post didn’t hit my inbox…then I realized that you revamped. Well done you!

I’m loving that the first couple posts in this week’s coffee share is all about starting again. Here’s to great moments in blogging for 2017.

P.S. I live in the Caribbean so no snow for me…but I am enjoying a rainy Sunday afternoon 🙂

Thank you for the recipe! It sounds amazing. We got a small amount of snow last week (maybe 2 inches) but it is nearly all gone. We are supposed to get a snow/ice mix later this week.

What a delicious cocoa recipe! Sorry about your snow that wasn’t. Temperatures up north have been unseasonably warm – it’s been in the 40s for three days and everything is melting! Which is kind of nice as our driveway was definitely suffering from A Sheet of Icy Death syndrome. I’m not sad to see that go!

Our temperatures have been crazy warm, too! It was nearly 80 degrees here on Friday…and that’s a bit on the nutty side even for the South. I’m so glad that you’ll not be falling victim to the Sheet of Icy Death…I would miss you so!

I also wanted to let you know that I’ll be sending out Valentine’s again this year, so look for the post later this week if you’re interested. 🙂
