Weekend Coffee Share…with a Big Bloomin’ Announcement!

Good morning, my beautiful blog friends! I’m so glad you could join me today…because I have some exciting news! Before we get into that, let’s pour you a cup of coffee (the dinos made it, of course) and snuggle into the couches. It’s a little chilly this morning, so you might want a throw or some dog snuggles to keep you warm. (I wouldn’t bury in too deep though…it’s supposed to get up to 70 later today.)

Oh, and let me apologize for the store-bought snacks! The dinosaurs have been terribly busy this week, and all of their free time has been devoted to using Duolingo to learn French. They’re a bit obsessed with that right now, and since they’ve managed to practice every day of 2017 so far, they really don’t want to break their streak. 😉

Okay, so what is that big announcement that I teased you with up there???

Starting next Saturday (February 18), Weekend Coffee Share will have a new home! And where will that home be??? Right here at Nerd in the Brain! I am so excited and honored to be the new host for Weekend Coffee Share, and I so look forward to having coffee with all of you each weekend! Part-Time Monster has been an incredible, wonderful host, and I promise to take very good care of this awesome thing she has nurtured and grown.

Weekend Coffee Share- New Home - Nerd in the Brain (1)

Y’all, I am just so excited!

In other goings-on, I’ve had my usual busy week…but it’s been a good kind of busy.  Last weekend was spent gaming with some of the awesome-est ladies in the whole wide world, so the whole week had a shiny glow to it. 🙂 Other than that, it was a week of orthodontics appointments, dinner theater planning with the PTSO (with only one printing disaster!), and the usual teenager wrangling and home maintaining.

Once I get through this weekend, I should be looking at a fairly quiet week…I haven’t had one of those in a long while, so I’m quite looking forward to it! But there is that bit about getting through this weekend. Today, I’ll be spending a few hours at the school helping the PTSO get set up for our big dinner theater event…and then it’s off for a hike and a meal with that husband o’ mine. Tomorrow brings the actual dinner theater event, so the day is sure to be crazed. (But rewarding! Our advance ticket sales have been great, and we’re hoping the “show only” walk-in crowd, and their desire for concessions, will make the event even more successful.) 🙂

What about you? Anything fun or unusual on the agenda? Has your past week been hectic or relaxed or fascinating? Tell me all about it!

My week hasn’t left a tremendous amount of time for reading, so I’m still working on Happier at Home by Gretchen Rubin.

Because I’ve been working on a couple of “long term” craft projects, I’ve had more time for TV than reading (because that mess can be going on in the background while I work), but I haven’t been watching anything new…I’m still working my way through Gilmore Girls…again. 🙂

In gaming, we’ve still been pretty focused on Stardew Valley…even though I haven’t had much time to play this week, I’ve enjoyed cheering John on while he plays. (Watching other people game is also great for background entertainment while working on craft-y pursuits.)

What about you? What are you watching? Reading? Playing? Tell me all about it!

Let’s see…what’s up in blog news? Not a whole lot really. I think I’m finally ready to get to the post-a-day schedule I’ve been ramping up to.

I’ve been using a new editorial calendar on Trello, and it has been helping me tremendously with getting things organized and planned and on track. I’ve tinkered with Trello in the past, but I’m just now realizing how bloomin’ useful it is for blogging! Have you used it before? What did you think?

Normally, the dinosaurs use this space to share a little recipe with you, but they also have an announcement to make. As much as they love cooking tasty snacks for you, they have other things they want to share, too! They feel like their love of science hasn’t been properly displayed on the blog, so they’re going to be switching things up a bit. They’ll continue to share one of their favorite recipes with you every other week…and the weeks in between will be for sharing some of their favorite quick and simple STEAM activities.

This week, they’ve just spent too much of their time on Duolingo to get anything prepared, so instead of sharing a recipe or activity, they want to extend an invitation. If anyone is looking for another buddy on Duolingo, you can find those dinos under the username Nerd in the Brain. (They’re a little miffed to not all have separate accounts, but there’s just the so much language chaos I want happening on my phone.) 😉

Well, the time has come for me to get my ducks all in a row and head up to the school for a few hours of tablecloth-placing and food truck building (we have an old-fashioned carnival type theme going for the event, so we have to create the illusion of food trucks) and twinkle light stringing and that sort of thing. 🙂

I really look forward to seeing you next week in the first week of Weekend Coffee Share’s new home! 😀

And until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥

Trello has been really great for an editorial calendar. I have really been loving it…and being able to copy that checklist of everything that needs to be done for a post from one card to another has been just amazing. I’m certainly not a Trello expert, but if you have questions, I can try to help. 🙂

Can I tell you Duolingo is my absolute favorite and I study French too! I had a two year streak of practicing everyday and lost it when I went to the UK a year ago ! I was so upset to say the least because I go to other countries all the time and had never had an issue. So I STOPPED

Oops I hit the wrong button and posted before I was done! Anyway, back to my everyday schedule and then some with Duolingo! I will look for you! I have been through the entire program twice!

Wow! Through the whole thing twice? That is dedication! 😀

Do you find that Duolingo (though awesome) sometimes leaves you with gaps in understanding what in the heck is going on? Like why do adjectives sometimes come before a noun and sometimes after a noun? Do you use anything to supplement Duolingo?

Yes, I go over the lessons multiple times before I move on. Certain adjectives do come before and some after, like numbers are always before. Like, the three pigs, les trois cochons. You just have to know which ones and that comes from studying. I also have French Now by Barrons that I like and the Living Language Series that I like. They both get more into the nitty gritty, but I am obsessed with Duolingo and will use it every day. I find I don’t remember the words and all that hard stuff (well I think it it is) at the bottom of the Duolingo French set unless I keep going over it.

Can’t wait to find out how your dinner theatre goes. It seems as though it is filled with wonderful Nerdy touches! Good to see that the dinosaurs are putting on their lab coats as well as their cooking aprons. 🙂
We have had some hot weather here this week, which lays me low. Fortunately I don’t live in the parts that reached up into the high 40 degrees C! But at least the high temperature has ripened the corn and tomatoes growing in the front yard. As for watching…..I have finished the season of Midnight Sun, a Swedish noir thriller. Definitely worth watching if you like rather black and gruesome mysteries.

Oh, I spent half the day at the school yesterday with the “set up crew,” and it is looking amazing. There are so many talented people floating around that place! You could almost forget that you were in a school with all of the twinkly lights and gingham tablecloths and tables piled with chafing dishes. 🙂 Tonight is the big event, so I’ll be sure to let you know how things went next week.

Wow, those are some seriously high temperatures! It’s not unusual for us to get to 40 degrees C, but the upper 40s??? Yikes! Even if it’s not quite that hot where you are, be sure to take care of yourself…lots of water and stuff. 🙂 And enjoy those veggies!

I’m definitely a fan of black and gruesome mysteries! I’ll have to look into Midnight Sun. Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve not heard of Trello and will check it out. Maybe it will help me get organised. Right.

Trello is pretty amazing…it’s the first app I’ve ever used that seems to work for *everything* that I need to organize. If you try it out, I’d love to hear your thoughts. 🙂

Congratulations on being our new Coffee Share host! I don’t tend to pop in weekly, but will show up as often as I can!

Once a day posting, ha? Good for you! That’s no small feat! I’m lucky to get a post or two each week…there’s so little time left at the end of my days that blogging has really taken a back burner, and I miss it terribly. Maybe I can live through you and all the others that seem to be able to squeeze minutes from days and nights that I can’t seem to 😉

Hope you have a lovely week! See you soon!

Congrats on hosting! I do love this series. 🙂 I too am using Duolingo this year! Though mine is for Spanish vs. French. I actually still remember a lot of Spanish from school, so that’s handy! I do find that I need to supplement Duolingo with outside help though…while it’s great for vocab practice I find it really lacking in terms of teaching grammatical rules. As in WHY on earth I use certain words in certain places or specifics on conjugating different verbs for things like past or present tense. BUT, for a free app, it is most certainly wonderful!

We are on the exact same page with Duolingo! (Right down to practicing with the languages that we learned in high school.) 🙂 I think I need to find a solid online source that does the actual explaining part.

And thanks for the congrats! I’m excited…and a wee bit nervous. 🙂
