#WeekendCoffeeShare: May 27, 2017

Good morning, my beautiful blog friends! Come on in and snuggle up on a couch…the dinosaurs will be glad to bring you some coffee that they’ve brewed up prehistoric-style. (It’s delicious…you know, really, everyone should consider inviting some coffee-making dinos into their homes.) 😉

Last Weekend

After we last shared coffee, things were pretty quiet around here. John had to work on Saturday (some goofy time-hogging project he’s got going on at work…that, okay, I guess is super-important and stuff, but it’s cutting into play time), so it turned into more of a day of errands for me. Sunday, however, was all about going into Charlotte to get coffee from one of our favorite places in 7th Street Market and wander about seeing what there was to see.

Coffee from Seventh Street Market | Nerd in the Brain

Mmmmmm….coffeeeee. Sorry, but I had already taken a sip before I took the picture, so the glorious beauty of the whole thing got a wee bit messed up. 😉

After our adventures in 7th Street Market (Did I mention the pesto chicken and lemon drop crepes? Oh. My. Goodness.), we walked around a bit until we stumbled into the Levine Museum of the New South. I’ve been to the Levine Museum before, but John hadn’t seen it, so we spent the rest of the day there learning about the past, present, and possible future of our area. They also have a great (and heartbreaking) exhibit called K(NO)W JUSTICE, K(NO)W PEACE about police shootings in our region and the country, so much was learned and absorbed that day. (Have I mentioned before that I believe it’s super-important to support the NAACP and ACLU? I know I have, but I thought I’d throw those links up just in case anyone would like to use them.)

The Past Week

Well, the week wasn’t much to write home about…or talk over coffee about. It was full to the top with me getting the blog (and all of my social media) ready to be relaunched next Friday. I still have a lot to do, but I’m finally, finally starting to see things come together. The pieces are clicking and all that. 🙂 I’m a big ball of nervous excitement about this new (and epic) chapter in the life of Nerd in the Brain, but I think it’s going to be awesome. I do hope you’ll join me next Friday to find out a bit about the new format of the blog…and there’s going to be a really nifty giveaway, so you definitely wouldn’t want to miss that. 🙂

But, yeah, seriously, that’s all I’ve been doing this week outside of the usual teenager wrangling-hiking-kitty shelter volunteering-home maintaining order of things. 🙂

This Weekend

Well, as my U.S. friends know, it’s a holiday weekend here (though it’s a holiday that gives me much mental conflict…is it really a “holiday” when the day is to honor our servicepeople* who have died…perhaps it is…or are the celebrations and activities and sales disrespectful…or is that exactly what those servicepeople were fighting to protect, so we should honor them by celebrating…see, conflict), so we have an extra day off from work and school. We actually don’t have a tremendous amount of plans for our long weekend. We’re planning some disc golf and general goofing about this afternoon…and then we’re going to a play this evening. Other than that, we have nothing solid on the agenda (though I suspect there will be more disc golf and some hiking in there).

*Every spelling checker is telling me that “servicepeople” is not a word, but I’m thinking that since “servicemen” is a word and “servicewomen” is a word, that it’s fairly ridiculous that “servicepeople” isn’t a word. Why the need to gender distinguish? Why can’t it just be everyone? I call malarkey, and I’m sticking to servicepeople.

Next Week

Have I mentioned that whole “relaunch of the blog” thing? Yeah, that’s totally happening. 🙂  Oh, and next weekend brings the next Lady Gamers Weekend (24 hours of gaming with some of the most awesome ladies on the planet). I think just those two things are quite enough to keep me sufficiently busy. 😉

And You?

What has your week been like? Did you do anything awesome last weekend? Any fantastic plans this weekend? What about those weekdays in between? Any triumphs or struggles you want to share? If you’re in the U.S. (or even if you’re not), what are your thoughts on Memorial Day and the way we celebrate it as a nation? Tell me all about what’s going on with you and your brain thoughts!

And until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥

Thank you! I’m really looking forward to it, too…it feels like I’m finally getting things to where they should have been from the beginning. (It only took me a few years to work that out.) 😉 I hope you love where I take things!

Yes, this is a weekend of festivals around the country as summer begins. I remember it as a day to go the cemetery and place flowers on your family’s graves. Later after the war it became a day to honor the servicemen and women. Have great and safe weekend.

The one thing I enjoy about visiting museums is that you have the opportunity to learn new things. I always spend hours in the building – and can never understand those people who rush through at full speed. I am one of those people who read every single word that has been put up 🙂

Unfortunately, we’ve gotten away from the meaning of Memorial Day. Ask the average man on the street what Memorial Day is and they’ll tell you it’s the beginning of summer. Sad, I know.

I too will use sevicepeople..but am disturbed, indeed, about the use of the word as well as all the lives in pursuit of war. I think the public is really removed from the realities of all the wars we support, and even further removed from the problems created by war for the “servicepeople”. Someday we will stick to the guns of peace…

I very much enjoy the term servicepeople; well used! We had a rather industrious weekend – I got the veggie garden all planted on Sat and then we did our first hike of the season on Sunday. The weather was just too lovely to be indoors!

Looking forward to the blog relaunch!

Looking forward to the blog re-launch! I have been kind of cocooning in, and eventually do need to do some real thinking and work on my blog. I’ve struggled to even get my coffee shares together!
