Good morning, my beautiful blog friends! I hope your weekend is off to an amazing start! I would like to apologize for being a bit late to the coffee share (again). I assure you that I’m normally a pretty punctual person, but I’m having quite the silly morning…
Normally, the dinosaurs and I get up between 5:00 and 5:30 each morning…no alarms or anything…it’s just when we wake up. Well, imagine our surprise when we rubbed the sleepy from our eyes and looked at the clock…and the clock said 7:47! What?!? I realize that’s a perfectly reasonable time to wake up on the weekends, but when you’re used to waking up before 6:00 (and plan to write your coffee post based on that fact), well, it leads to some chaotic running around. 😉
As if “oversleeping” weren’t enough to make my day wonky, I then received a text that made firm plans change to “up in the air” plans for this morning…so I’m on standby to see what’s going to happen there…which shifts my plans for the rest of the day. (Nothing to be done about it…we’re waiting to see if a child’s overnight throwing up shenanigans were the result of a bug or bad food…if it was a bug, plans are off…if it was bad food, plans are on…either way we have to wait until said child wakes up to know the answer, so the time moved from concrete to flexible.)
After that? Well, I couldn’t possibly get situated and blogging appropriately because a cardinal decided to plan some sort of all-out, multi-phased, shock-and-awe-style assault on my office window. When she finally spotted me in the room – staring at her with great interest, of course – she decided a staring contest was the way to go. Well, I’m not one to back down from a staring contest, so a few minutes had to be devoted to that cause. (Technically I won the staring contest, but I’m really feeling like she said some not-very-nice things to me before she flew away.)
Believe it or not, I’ve managed to get a cup of coffee and walk the dog and (finally) get this post started. 🙂 In the name of not making people wait too, too long, I’m going to do a weird thing…I’m going to publish this intro with the link-up…and then add to the post as I go. That way you don’t have to wait for the link-up, and I can breathe a moment before telling you about my week. 🙂 (It also gives the dinosaurs time to draft an official apology for not being ready for company. They’re horrified, but I know you kind souls will forgive them.)
So, come on in, get yourself a cup of coffee and help yourself to some fruit or muffins, and we’ll get this party started. 😀
[A few minutes later] Before we move on to more serious matters, let me give you a bird update. Whilst getting a fresh cup of coffee, I spotted what looks to be the same bird viciously attacking one of the side mirrors of our car. I don’t know what the mirror did to bring about such a serious thrashing, but perhaps it needs to pay for its crimes? I’m going to let the bird and the mirror work that one out amongst themselves.
[And now let’s have a ramble-y tangent about grammar…] I used the word “amongst” up there, and got a red squiggly of “you’re a doofus” under it. Well, this caused me to run to other bits of the inkerwebz to look it up…because I’m feeling pretty certain that “amongst” is actually a real, human word. It turns out that I did use the word correctly…sort of. The word does exist, but, apparently, is not frequently used in U.S. English. A fact I find strange since I hear the word often. (Perhaps it’s a Southern thing, but not a U.S.-wide thing? I dunno.) So, in the fact that it is a word, I have defeated the red squiggly. But…it turns out that it should only be used for three or more people/objects, so really I should have said that I would let the bird and mirror work it out between themselves. Really, I only share this bit with you to give you a glimpse into how my brain goes…and how easily distracted I am. 🙂
[Actual things happening in my life now…] So, unfortunately, the nonsense with school shooting threats continues at Grace’s school…sort of.
Yesterday evening, we received a call from the school letting us know that a new threat had been found on a bathroom wall. (This is apparently the trendy new method for conveying threats in schools.) I was very glad that the school seems to have learned from the last incident and actually did something totally wacky like let parents know a bit about what was happening. I was not at all glad that Grace was still at school (she stayed after to hang out with some friends since we were going back in the evening for a dance performance anyway), and the message from the school completely failed to mention anything about the “when and where” particulars of this threat.
A chat with Grace later (why do the students always have so much more information than the parents about these things???), I discovered that the threat must have been a “joke” or from someone who doesn’t have a copy of the school calendar or something. The threat gave next Friday as the date for a school shooting…but they don’t have school next Friday.
I was afraid after the last incident that this sort of thing would start happening…that there would be a spiral of nonsense…because I’ve seen it happen before.
Even though the threatening note didn’t make much sense with the date given, the school still took it quite seriously and called in the police, so the incident will be investigated. Personally, I hope they have some extra security up there next Friday, because, even though the kids don’t have school, the teachers will be there for a teacher workday.
Okay, I’m going to go check on this bird situation again…and try to calm my frustrations about people making school shooting threats…and other frustrating things. Back in a few with a bird update…I know you’re all on the edge of your seats. 😉
[And a few more minutes later] The bird seems to have moved on to other battles…she’s nowhere to be seen. My office window and the car mirror seem to have made it through the assault, but there is a general feeling of fear and dejection emanating from both objects. Fear not! I’ll give them both pep talks…we’ll get through this. 🙂
[And more about actual life] So, other than continued threats of school violence, life has been going on like its twirly, hectic, chaotic self. This week included everything from a fantastic dance performance at the school to a “Campfire Stories” event at our favorite park (with s’mores!) to a frantic PTSO Performing Arts meeting for dinner theater planning. I’ve also been spending a lot of time in “plan and organize” mode for about 100 projects that I have up in the air at the moment. If all goes according to plan (bwahahahahaha!), I should be back to regular blogging on Tuesday. This week’s plans were unexpectedly waylaid by some vet visits for Frank (he’s fine, but we had to have quite a few tests run…and still more tests in the future for what we suspect is a tracheal problem) and a firebombing of the house when we discovered last Sunday that Grace had lice (it’s all gone now thanks to an intense treatment…and we have no idea where she got it from…we can only assume school since no one else at either of her houses has it). You know, it’s really not all that surprising that I overslept this morning, is it? 😉
Okay, now that the bird has moved on, I feel like I can properly finish up this post by asking you about your life! How have things been going? Anything fun or nifty on the horizon? Did anything amazing or wondrous or just kind of interesting happen in your life this week? Tell me all about it!
After I hear all of your news, I’m afraid I need to dash. Those “up in the air” plans became concrete again while I’ve been typing this…and there’s the usual Saturday hike with John to be accomplished…and, I’m hoping, a truly obnoxious amount of Mexican food to be consumed. 🙂 Here’s to all of us having an absolutely beautiful day! 😀
And now it’s time for you to show me (and the rest of the Coffee Share crew) yours!
And until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥
