#WeekendCoffeeShare : The One Where I’m in Wilmington

Hello, lovely blog friends! I’m actually chatting at you from sunny Wilmington, NC this morning, so the coffee is courtesy of the hotel lobby instead of the dinosaurs this week. (And not nearly as yummy, I’m afraid…but it’s a trade off, right?) 😉 Because of my “I’m in a hotel right now” status, I’m going to keep this week’s share brief…so that I can quickly change my status to “I’m running about exploring the world.” 😀

Last Weekend

Last weekend was pretty laid back for us. John and I played some disc golf (the usual), went to see Wonder Woman (loved it!), and did some general goofing about…like we do. 🙂

We did have an interesting moment though! The moment when we spotted a critter in the woods that was new to both of us. We’ve both lived in the South all of our lives, but had never before put our little peepers on the mighty black and white fox squirrel! And now I will share with you a horrible picture of this regal beast! (Sorry about the picture quality…that little fella didn’t want to stay still, he was way up in a tree, and we were bumbling about trying to take pictures with our phones…less than ideal photography conditions.) 😉

If you want to know more about the fox squirrel and see some better pictures (and who wouldn’t???), this Wikipedia page is a nice place to start. We were lucky enough to see one of the nifty black and white color variations, but they come in lots of lovely colors. 🙂

The Past Week

Ah, the past week. Hmmm. It’s been rather dull, actually. Busy, but not particularly interesting in any way…ya-know-what-I-mean? Grace undertook the big job of turning 16 on Tuesday, but all of our celebrations for that are happening this weekend. (And she was at her mom’s on the actual day, so other than some really enthusiastic texts and things, it was a relaxed event.)

Unless you want to know about me taking the steam cleaner to the bathroom floors or spending some time getting blog posts ready for next week or wandering about the park, I pretty much have nothin’ in the way of interesting news.

This Weekend

Woot! Woot! This weekend, as mentioned about 100 times over the past couple of posts, we’re in Wilmington. We arrived yesterday afternoon and promptly got to puttering about. After a nice bit of goofing off, we had a huge fondue dinner (Grace’s birthday request) before sending Grace and her BFF on a ghost tour. John and I went on the ghost tour just a few weeks ago, so we chose to grab some coffee and stroll around town while the kids got their creepy on. 🙂

Today is going to be all about boats on the river, revisiting the Museum of the Bizarre, checking out the college (UNCW is Grace’s dream school as her vision of double majoring in music and marine biology can only be achieved at a very few places…and only one that’s gonna include in-state tuition),  and maybe perhaps heading down to the beach for a bit.

We have an adventure planned for tomorrow, too, but I’m gonna keep my trap shut about that for now…because it will be all over the blog next month. 🙂

Next Week

Next week is actually scheduled to be pretty quiet. Other than the usual stuff, the agenda is pretty clear. I’m planning to spend a lot of time continuing work on the blog and updating some products…you know, work stuff. 🙂

The week after that? Different story! Yeah, I’ll totally be heading back to the Wilmington area with my BFF…except we’ll be staying in Sunset Beach and cruising into Wilmington just to spend an afternoon or something. (Can you tell that I love it here? I am so, so ready to move here…waiting two years may just drive me bananas!) 😉

And You?

Okay, enough about me and my twirling and wandering! What’s going on in your life? Anything fun or awesome planned for the weekend or the week ahead? Are you off and about anywhere nifty this weekend? Seen any new-to-you animals recently? Tell me all about it! And be sure to share your own Weekend Coffee Share post by clicking on the linkup below:

And until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥

Thank you! We had some great adventures yesterday, and we’re heading into some new ones in just a few minutes…then it’s homeward bound for us. (Which is also nice, because I really miss my dog.) 😉 I hope you have an amazing week!

Sounds like a good, relaxing early summer. I hope you are enjoying your time in Willington. Happy Birthday to Grace! And double majoring in music and marine biology? Sounds very cool, but I’m not sure how a job would look… Perhaps a concerto with a whale? Still, it sounds very cool.

I hope you have a great week!

We are having a fantastic time in Wilmington! 😀

Hehe…somehow I don’t think that both majors will be put to use at the same job, but I do like the thought of her performing with whales. 😉

I hope your week is full of awesome!

She -has- to find a job to use here double major! If nothing exists now, she needs to create something.

My niece did a double major in marketing and music. Her idea was to be a manager for a rock band, but she’s just using the marketing side now…

I’ll let her know that she should start thinking now about how she’s going to combine them. 😉

I think her thinking is that she’s equally interested in these two things, so why limit herself to one or the other? John and I fully agree…we’ve given her permission to take an extra year since she’ll be double majoring in such vastly different topics. 🙂

I’m not saying she needs to combine them for any practical purpose, but for the coolness factor 😉 It is great that she has such strong interests in such divergent areas.

Sounds like you’re having a lovely time! And I’m quite jealous… I agreed to do summer school, and it’s been nothing but serious, fast paced learning and paper grading and waiting my turn for the copier for two and a half weeks now. Add in trying to spend a few nights every week with my boyfriend and you’ve got a big mess… and I’m exhausted. Didn’t even get out of my PJ’s yesterday. Just two more weeks of summer school left, and then my vacation will begin!

Can’t wait to hear more about your adventures!

Ugh. Summer school sounds pretty gross…I’m glad it will be over soon. I’m looking forward to a pajamas-only day on Thursday…that’s the next opportunity I’ll have for such a thing, and I’m planning to take full advantage. 🙂

I hope your week has as little chaos as possible! 🙂

Thank you! I’ll take any positive energy or prayers to that effect. I need a little less chaos and drama in my life. Most of it has been kept out by request of the other party, but lemme tell you, my dating life is more drama than I’m comfortable with. But I love him, so we’ll see if it works itself out or not.

No new animals, though I found a mushroom the size of a huge pancake! There may have been some little critters living under there, but my dog would surely scare them off. It has rained quite a bit here in NE Florida lately, so that must be encouraging the fungi!

Ohhh, huge mushrooms are exciting, too! Those wacky fungi do like the rain. 🙂

I hope you have a wonderful week full of nifty fungi and other spiffy things! 😀

You are my kind of tourist. I was a travel agent for years, and can’t believe how much people want to cover so much ground without really investigating a place (like 24 cities in 12 days in Europe) . Your through style makes for great memories as well as some serendipity. I would love to be there with you for the ghost tour. Enjoy! Thanks for coffee.

Yeah, we do like to savor a place…it’s how you learn about all the good stuff. 🙂 (Particularly important when you’re seriously considering moving to an area.) I think the most intense trip I’ve ever done was 4 countries in 3 weeks…fortunately the majority of the time was spent in a small town in Germany (we were there for a wedding) with little trips out to visit sites in other countries, so I did get to do some pretty serious exploring of one town, at least. 🙂 I don’t think I’d ever sign up for the 24 cities in 12 days whirlwind…how would you even remember where you had been???

I hope you have a beautiful week!

Now that black and white fox squirrel is pretty awesome right there! I have only seen a few black squirrels in my life but never a black and white one. Hope you have an awesome time in Wilmington and can’t wait to hear about your adventure. As for me, I will be reading and writing all weekend in prep for Dublin next week. I actually have an 8 page paper due by Sunday at midnight. But first I need to record and post 3 voice threads. It is the one thing I couldn’t do with my tablet while my computer was held hostage by HP for nearly a month. Later! 😀

I bet you’ll see all sorts of nifty, new things in a week…maybe not black and white fox squirrels, but still nifty Dublin-y stuff. 😀 Have fun getting all of that prep work finished…it’ll totally be worth it, I’m sure!

It’s lovely to be someplace you really want to be – and hard to leave.

No new animals for me, but my son just got glasses, and is seeing a whole new world of living things.

I had a scary car breakdown this week, with my teen in the car. We were on an interstate; it could have been so much worse, but it’s also something of a financial and freedom bind…and a chance to change the way we look at many things as we move forward.

May your “mellow week” be that way, and offer renewing progress!

I’m glad your son is seeing the world more clearly, but sorry that you’re having car trouble. I love that you’re using the car situation as an opportunity to take a new view of things. I hope your week is calm and free of car troubles!

He’s thrilled with his glasses, and suddenly wants to bird and deer watch! =) He also looks very handsome in his new glasses – he chose well, even though he’s not the type of guy who cares much about that type of thing.

As for the car – it was scary for a bit, but we’ve found peace with letting it go (repairs would be more than the value of my elderly car). So I’m without for the time being, but I can live with that.

No car troubles for me, since I no longer own a car! In a way, that’s liberating, too – I don’t need to go anywhere. As for my boy – he’s loving the glasses. =D

Sounds like a lovely weekend! I’m looking forward to this upcoming one – we’re headed to a place called Polar Caves! It’s just a bit north of us and will be perfect for some summer cave exploration. Plus, it’ll be a family affair, my brother is coming up from Boston and my mum will be joining us. Can’t wait!
