#WeekendCoffeeShare: The One Where I’m Off Exploring Wacky Stuff

An Adventure

Hello, my wonderful blog friends! How are you? Is your weekend off to a fantastic start? (I do hope so!) Please excuse my bad manners (and utter lack of coffee), but I’m afraid there won’t be anyone here to let you in the door this weekend. You see, John and I have decided on a spur-of-the-moment trip to the coast for the weekend.

You may think it’s a bit nutty to spend a rainy weekend at the beach, but the two of us think it’s a fine, fine idea…primarily because our plans are mostly non-beach related. You see, there are two “museums” and a park that I would like to see, so we’re going to spend most of our time indoors…the park will be squished into some non-rainy spans of time. Why the quotation marks around museums? Well, let’s just say that one of them calls itself a “science museum” but includes such fabulous offerings as a chupacabra hand, a mermaid specimen, and a unicorn horn. I can not wait to see this place! 😀 I mean, a chupacabra hand? How can I pass up a chance to see that?!?

The beach itself? Well, that’s a wonderful place to be in the rain! The wildlife is fascinating, and the crowds are absent. 🙂

An Apology

Due to the “me not actually being here” thing, I’ll be even slower than normal in reading your posts and responding to comments (though rest assured that I do read all of your posts and comments).

Speaking of comments, I want to apologize for my slackness in comment responses over the past few weeks. I find myself getting busy, busy, busy and not spending much time in blog-land…and things get away from me. I do plan to stop such naughty blog host behavior and get back on track with acting like a civilized human being. I’m actually considering scheduling time each day for being a good blog friend. 🙂

A Quick Update

In addition to our trip to the beach, I’ve had lots of other wacky things going on in my schedule this past week. Everything from the PTSO Volunteer Appreciation Dinner to implementing an ice cream party for the IT Academy at Grace’s school to appointments at the car dealership for finishing touches to business seminars. The week has definitely been packed with planning and running around and general hectic twirliness. 😉 With all of that being said, I don’t actually have any specific thing that’s super-interesting to babble about. (Me not babble? Shocking!) 😉

A Wish

Here in the U.S., Mother’s Day is this Sunday. (I realize that it happens on different dates in other countries, but the following wish applies no matter where you live.) I just wanted to take a moment to wish an absolutely beautiful, wonderful, amazing weekend to all of the moms, stepmoms, foster moms, bereaved moms, fur baby moms, and all of the other mom figures in all the land. Keep doing what you do…because chances are pretty good that you’re awesome. ♥

A Share

And now it’s your turn! What has your week been like? What have you been up to? Any interesting firsts going on in your world? Dealing with anything that’s too complicated to be reasonable? Tell us all about it while the dinosaurs pour you some fresh coffee. 🙂

And until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥

A weekend at the beach over a rainy weekend sounds fabulous to me! Enjoy your time. I am dreaming of my next time to Ocracoke. That is the best kept secret. Love it! My favorite time to go to the beach is Labor Day week. After that Monday, the crowds are gone and you get off season rates. And it’s still summertime!

Rainy here too. Exciting housecleaning going on over here before I start back to classes on Monday (7 credits). Yikes! Trying to get things in some sort of order and cleanliness before I put my head in the books for another 12 weeks. Then dinner tonight with a friend.

Have a great time away! Looking forward to hearing about the adventures.

It was an amazing trip! And the rain was light enough that we were able to fit in some things that we hadn’t been expecting. 🙂

I love Ocracoke! I don’t think I’ve ever been there off-season…I’ll have to try that out sometime because the crowds during the tourist season are a bit overwhelming there.

I hope your housecleaning was productive and successful. 😉 Good luck with your start on new classes today!!!

I’m at the coast too,but what’s new? 😉 Sounds like an interesting “museum”. Make sure you post about it! I hope you’re having a great time.

    • Nerd in the Brain May 15, 2017 at 6:56 am

Oh, that museum was just amazing…just really wow. 😀 Unfortunately, you’re not allowed to take many pictures there at all, so that leaves me with not much to make a blog post with.

The Serpentarium actually turned out to be the more fascinating of the museums we went to. Of course, there were all of the beautiful snakes and lizards and turtles to ohhhh and ahhh over for quite some time, but things got crazy (in a bad way) a couple hours after we left. We were in the museum right next door when we started hearing loads of sirens just one after another. When we finished up and went outside, the road was blocked off and emergency vehicles were everywhere and police were suiting up in gear and whatnot. Of course we assumed that someone had been bitten and a snake or alligator was loose or something. We did our looky-loo thing for a couple of minutes before wiggling our way out of there. We found out later that it had nothing to do with the snakes at all…the owner of the museum had been shot and killed by his wife in their apartment above the Serpentarium! (I don’t know how to make a “horrified face emoji,” so just pretend that’s here.) I don’t know what will become of all of those beautiful creatures now. 🙁

Anyhoo, I hope your weekend at the coast was a little quieter and less dramatic than that!

      • trentpmcd May 15, 2017 at 7:24 am

That’s awful! I hope someone can take over the Serpentarium. But I’m glad that other than that bit of excitement that you had a good weekend. The coast was nice. I went at 190 mph all weekend so, yeah, it was relaxing 😉

Have a safe and fun time at the beach.

    • Nerd in the Brain May 15, 2017 at 6:56 am

Thank you! We did have a wonderful time! 😀

  • amiewrites74 May 14, 2017 at 9:05 am

That “museum ” sounds like a lot of fun! Enjoy your weekend at the coast and have a fabulous Mother’s day!

    • Nerd in the Brain May 15, 2017 at 6:59 am

Thank you! It was so, so much fun! And the “museum” was every bit as entertaining and amusing as I had hoped it would be. 😀 (Did you even know that unicorn horns are black, mermaids have vicious pointy teeth, and fairies crystallize when they die? Oh, and I won’t even go into the fact that the possessed clown was MISSING! He could be anyyyyyywherrrrrre.) 😀

      • amiewrites74 May 15, 2017 at 8:53 am

No I didn’t know those things! I need to visit this museum! Now I will have to be on the lookout for that clown!

  • Robin May 14, 2017 at 11:26 am

I love the beach on rainy days, and that “museum” sounds like great fun. Happy Mother’s Day to you too! 🙂

    • Nerd in the Brain May 15, 2017 at 7:01 am

The museum was fantastic, and though we don’t mind rainy days at the beach, it didn’t do much more than drizzle, so we were able to fit some unexpected activities (ghost tour! outdoor dining!) into our short vacation. 🙂 I hope your weekend was amazing!

  • Colline May 14, 2017 at 12:11 pm

Hope you enjoy your ‘beach’ weekend. Museum visiting is great – and a walk on the beach with no crowds is even better 🙂
    Happy Mother’s Day.

    • Nerd in the Brain May 15, 2017 at 7:03 am

It was just a fabulous weekend! Without trying to, we managed to fit so many nifty things into our short getaway. (We’re not “plan every moment” type people when on vacation, but we just found ourselves hopping from one spiffy experience to the next.) I hope your weekend was blissfully wonderful!

      • Colline May 17, 2017 at 8:43 am

It was. We spent it at home but the family was together on both days – first for my daughter’s birthday, and then for Mother’s Day 🙂

  • Pamela Morse May 14, 2017 at 1:02 pm

I certainly expect pictures of the chupacabra hand…or maybe it is like the “Thing” in AZ in which no photo are allowed…not to blow the secret of the “thing”. It sounds like fun to me. Bon Voyage!!

    • Nerd in the Brain May 15, 2017 at 7:06 am

I am so, so sad to report that it was a “no pictures allowed” type of establishment. (I was super disappointed to learn that when we went in.) You can trust that the chupacabra hand was pretty darn astonishing though. 😉 Good, good stuff going on in that place. 😉

I hope your weekend was amazing!

Hope you had a fantastic weekend! I’ll look forward to catching up next time.. 🙂 Have a great week!

  • kaycreate May 17, 2017 at 8:48 am

Honestly a rainy beach weekend sounds lovely! My head immediately went to a lack of people, which I enjoy. 😀 I hope you had a spectacular Mother’s Day!

    • Nerd in the Brain May 17, 2017 at 4:57 pm

It was a spectacular day, indeed! I hope yours was as well! 😀
