#WeekendCoffeeShare: The One Where Not Much Happened Because I’ve Been Sick

Good morning, wonderful blog companions! Come in and grab a cup of coffee from the dinosaurs. The coffee is delicious, but the dinos do ask that you forgive them for (again) not having homemade snacks. You see, their people have been sick for the past couple of weeks, and they’ve been spending their time tending to fragile humans.

Do have a seat and get comfy…you’re probably pretty safe from cooties at this point. *fingers crossed* We’re recovering from this awful illness in the same order that we came down with it. (Makes sense, no?) Grace is all better, John is mostly all better, and, based on how things went for those two, I still have a day or two of not feeling absolutely awesome…but I’ve gotten beyond the “I just want to roll around and whine and eat jalapeno poppers” stage of my illness, so that’s good, I think. 🙂

Okay, let’s get our chat on!

The layer of illness coating our house this week prevented us from doing anything very interesting. We made it to the ballet last Saturday, but John and I had to cancel our night hike plan on Monday. I didn’t even do my volunteer shift at the kitty shelter on Tuesday. (Fret not! Someone covered for me, of course!) Pretty much all non-essential activities were abandoned. I did make it to a PTSO Performing Arts meeting on Wednesday…because in my mind it was totally essential. While I was there, I actually started to feel like I was getting better. But then I was betrayed! While having my regularly-scheduled Wednesday night phone call with my BFF, I began sneezing. A lot. I mean, like, really a lot. I then continued to sneeze…a lot. And the congestion came. And the coughing. Oh, my. Thursday was a bad, bad, no good day. *sigh*

This whole thing wouldn’t have been nearly so bad if I hadn’t also been preparing for opening night of Sweeney Todd at the school. *sigh again* Again, fret not! I managed to get everything I was supposed to do done. 🙂 I even made it to set up last night to do all of the things I needed to do. (I wasn’t able to stay for the show, but that’s okay…I still wasn’t feeling great…I’ll be catching the show next Saturday as part of John’s birthday celebration.) It is quite a relief to have the set up behind us. I still have quite a bit of prep to do for our dinner theatre event next weekend, but it seems like the hardest stuff is done. And I totally remembered to order the daisies for the centerpieces, so I’m feeling like a ninja. (I don’t know why, but I was really worried I was going to forget to order the flowers.)

Look! The kids made it to the front page of the local paper!

Sweeney Todd Front Page | Nerd in the Brain

Okay, I’ll stop babbling about Sweeney Todd now, I promise. And you’ve lucked out! I guess because of my sickly state, it didn’t even occur to me to take any pictures of any of the stuff I created for the performance. I did get a couple of shots of the incredible set that parent volunteers and the students created, but they’re dark and blurry. Trust me, though…the people who worked on that set are just unbelievably talented and dedicated. I am in awe! Really, really gonna stop babbling about the production now. 😉

Sooooo, if I don’t really have anything of interest to babble about from the week behind, let’s have a look at the week ahead, shall we? It’s actually pretty quiet, too…but in an intentional sort of way. 🙂 You see, I’ve stolen an idea from my best friend (I do that a lot…that’s what she gets for being so bloomin’ clever), and that means that we now do week-long birthday events at our house…sort of advent style. And that means that we’ll begin John’s birthday shenanigans tomorrow! Well, John likes his shenanigans to be pretty quiet and laid back, so to honor his birthday, we’ve actually removed just about everything from the agenda. 🙂 It will be a quiet week of hanging out at home, eating John’s favorite foods, and having the joy of being able to give him presents every day for a week. I am so, so excited about that! I love, love, love giving presents, and we got him some stuff that he’s going to be super duper happy about. I think I’ll share the whole birthday advent event on Instagram…then y’all will have a better idea of what an awesome doofus my husband is. 😀

Well, between still having a touch of “sick brain” and having had a quiet week (well, except for the hacking and sneezing), I’m all out of things to yammer about. It is totally your turn! I want to hear all about what’s going on with you! Did you do anything fun or new or scary or exciting this week? Started any new projects? Had any victories? Tell me, tell me!

And after you tell me all about your news and plans, it will be time for me to scoot. Though it makes me sad, I think we’ll be skipping our Saturday hike today (two weeks in a row!), but I just don’t think I’m quite healthy enough to get back to that yet. I do have a rather serious nap on the agenda later today…and I’m sure we’ll do a light version of our usual Saturday feasting. Oh, I also have to be at the school tonight for that thing that I’m totally 100% done babbling about. 😉 So, yeah, a busy busy day of mostly sleeping and eating and recovering.

And now it’s time for you to show me (and the rest of the Coffee Share crew) yours!

And until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥

Glad you’re feeling better! Lots of compliments last night on your decorations… they were perfect for the theme!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 25, 2017 at 9:16 am

Oh, I’m so glad people liked them! 😀

That set y’all built/created/painted was seriously just amazing…y’all are made of 100% awesome. 🙂

  • CadyLuck Leedy March 25, 2017 at 8:56 am

I hope you get to feeling better very soon! The beautiful weather to come may help!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 25, 2017 at 9:18 am

Thank you! We certainly do have some lovely weather ahead…I don’t think that can do anything but help. 🙂

      Have a wonderful week!

  • pamelascanepa March 25, 2017 at 9:08 am

Sweeney Todd looks like it was lots of fun, for viewers and performers alike!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 25, 2017 at 9:20 am

Oh, I sure hope so. 🙂

I hope you have a fabulous week!

  • Laurie Graves March 25, 2017 at 9:32 am

Yes, glad you’re feeling better. Love your idea for birthday celebrations. My husband and I did something similar for our 40th wedding anniversary, and we had so much fun.

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:32 am

I think extending celebrations is a fabulous idea! Congrats on 40+ years!!!

      • Laurie Graves March 27, 2017 at 11:15 am

        Many thanks!

  • Stephanie Pitcher Fishman March 25, 2017 at 9:37 am

The illness and ick that has been floating around this year is terrible. I hope that you are feeling better! It’s my first week chatting it up with the Weekend Coffee Share. That counts as something new. 😉

I love your idea about making birthdays a week-long event. We try to make them special, and that is a perfect way to do it. I love that sometimes special means slow and gentle. Enjoy your week!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:33 am

Welcome to the Weekend Coffee Share fun! 😀

I hope you have a wonderful week!

  • trentpmcd March 25, 2017 at 10:03 am

I was very sick back in February. Nasty. I’m glad you are on the upswing and hope you are back to awesomeness very soon!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:38 am

I’m finally, finally starting to feel like I’m getting my awesome back. 🙂 Other than a lingering cough and a voice that sounds even scratchier and twangier than usual, I’d say I’m recovered. (I’m glad you made a full recovery from your icky illness encounter, too!)

I hope you have a magically fantastic week!

      • trentpmcd March 27, 2017 at 10:46 am

Magically Fantastic Week? maybe! i’ll sure try… Glad you are starting to feel better – I hope it continues and that your week is magically fantastic as well!

  • Tara March 25, 2017 at 10:09 am

Sorry you weren’t feeling well. Happy to hear about the kids doing theater. I love it and that’s awesome!

    Feel better!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:39 am

      Thank you!

I hope you have a fabulous week! 😀

  • Pamela Morse March 25, 2017 at 10:20 am

Congratulations on the production. My partner has had a major bout with allergies this week,…you have my deep sympathy. I hope your good health will surge back quickly.

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:40 am

I’m almost completely 100% over the icky sickness, thank you! I hope your partner is feeling much, much better!

I hope you have an amazing week!

  • Corina March 25, 2017 at 10:23 am

I vote you’re right about the timeline of this “sickness.” A birthday week sounds awesome. And don’t talk about beautiful weather. Ours is crummy. Looks like rain every day for at least the next ten days. 🙁

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:42 am

We’re getting quite a bit of cloudiness and rain here, too…but the temperatures are pleasant and warm, so that’s nice. 🙂

I think we should all embrace the birthday week concept! In fact, we should just call a birthweek instead of a birthday. 😀

I hope your week is off to an awesome start!

  • bettylouise31 March 25, 2017 at 2:27 pm

Sorry you have been sick with a virus but happy you are feeling better. Congratulations on giving the play and the publicity on the show. A Happy Birthday week to John.

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:43 am

      Thank you!

I hope you have a wonderful week!

  • bettylouise31 March 25, 2017 at 2:29 pm

It was easier to find the comments block. Thanks for fixing g it.

  • The Snail of Happiness March 25, 2017 at 5:45 pm

I hate weeks of illness… glad to hear you are on the mend. We are having lovely weather here at the moment, which makes the world look a whole lot more cheerful… hope the sun is out for you too. And very happy birthday wishes to John… I like your whole-week thinking… I may have to give that a go here this year.

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:45 am

Oh, you should totally do the whole-week birthday…so far, it’s been a pretty magical thing around here. 🙂

Enjoy your beautiful weather! I bet you’re in gardening bliss. 😀

  • Elizabeth March 25, 2017 at 8:52 pm

Glad you’re on the mend, even if it made for a rough week. I know you said it was quiet, but all those events (especially Sweeney Todd) sound like anything but quiet! It felt quiet in my world, too, so maybe it was just a quiet week? See you next week for the coffee share!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:48 am

Hehe. It seems like any week that we don’t have 100 things to do is a quiet week for us. 😉 We have three of the seven Sweeney Todd performances behind us…when we finish up with that next Sunday, things really will settle down for a bit. (I hope!)

I hope you have a quietly lovely week! 🙂

  • Robin March 26, 2017 at 8:48 am

I hope you’re feeling 100% better soon! Colds and flu have sure been making the rounds lately. I love the idea of week-long birthday events. I think I’m going to steal it from you (which, I guess, will make it twice stolen). 🙂 Have a great week!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:50 am

Yes, steal away! I think everyone should start having week-long birthdays! 😀

Thank you for the well-wishes! I hope you have a beautiful week. 🙂

  • Dale March 26, 2017 at 2:17 pm

So very sorry you’ve been sick – I do feel your pain, though!
At least you managed to do the necessary things!
Fabulous idea about turning a birthday into a week-long event! Hmmm…

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:51 am

Hehe…I’m loving that so many people like the week-long birthday idea! I’m going to have to tell my BFF that she came up with a real winner of an idea. 😀

I hope you have a fabulous week!

      • Dale March 27, 2017 at 11:10 am

        It totally is a winner…

  • Lisa March 26, 2017 at 6:26 pm

    Mmmmm jalapeno poppers…

I’ve been, so far, safe from all the sickness going around my work place, despite a coworking coming in with the flu and strep! And sitting at the desk right next to me! I’ve been lucky, *Knocks on wood* I hope you continue feeling better and that this is the end of it. Oh, and congrats on the first-page coverage!

    Thanks for the coffee 🙂

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:53 am

Oh, I hope you stay cootie free!

I am convinced that the jalapeno poppers, though perhaps an odd choice for an ailing person, helped tremendously in the recovery process. 😉

I hope you have an amazing (and healthy!) week!

  • Mary Daniels Brown March 26, 2017 at 7:06 pm

I hope you’ll continue to get better and better. Happy (quiet and laid back) birthday to John!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:54 am

Thank you for the well wishes and the birthday wishes!

I hope your week is full of awesome! 😀

  • Kathleen Howell March 26, 2017 at 7:57 pm

You had me at jalapeno poppers!! And night hikes??? Do tell.. Glad you’re feeling better!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 10:59 am

Oh, jalapeno poppers…is there any problem they can’t solve? 😀

Yeah, a park in our area has started offering guided night hikes a couple of times each month…including one each full moon! So far, we’ve had to miss both night hikes we signed up for (one was canceled for rain, and the other we backed out of because of being sick), but we’re signed up for the next full moon hike in April. 🙂 I’m pretty excited about poking about in the woods at night…with flashlights…and a small group of people to help protect from monster encounters. 😉

I hope your week is off to a wonderful start!

      • Kathleen Howell March 27, 2017 at 6:30 pm

I’ll have to see if a group near me does those. How fun.. I did read about a night kayak trip. Freaky!

  • amiewrites74 March 26, 2017 at 8:15 pm

What a week for you! Glad you are feeling better. Congrats on the production. I love the idea of birthday week celebrations. Happy birthday to your husband and have a great week!

    • Nerd in the Brain March 27, 2017 at 11:00 am

It was quite a week. And this one promises to be pretty exciting, too…though minus the illness. 🙂 Thank you for all of your nice words! I hope your week is amazing! 😀
