#WeekendCoffeeShare: The One Where Summer Is Here

Hello, beautiful blog friends! Come on in for a cup of coffee (the dinos do love to show off their coffee-making skills) and a chat. We’ve gotten to the point in the year where the mornings are definitely for being outside, so let’s move things to the front porch, shall we? Upper sixties and a light breeze? Yes, please!

Speaking of the weather, we’ve been having a strange, strange Spring around here. I mean, usually here in the South, Spring is something that lasts about a week…all of the flowers pop and then BAM! It’s up in the 90s with 100% humidity. And that’s definitely coming (according to the all-knowing weather app on my phone), but up until now, we’ve been having this strange rotation of Spring and Summer…cool and rainy for a couple of days, hot and humid for a couple of days, repeat. Weird. Okay, that’s enough babble about the weather. Well, except for me asking you if the weather has also been a bit strange in your part of the world??? 🙂

Okay, on with the general babble-fest!

Last Weekend

Last weekend was amazing! As I mentioned last week, my Lady Gamers group met up for a weekend of gaming and general fun…how could that not be fabulous? Before I met up with those lovely ladies, I stopped in a science museum in the area where we were staying for the weekend…just fantastic! Much was learned from the museum…and some of it didn’t have anything to do with the exhibits. 🙂 What?

This was the first time in my 40+ years that I’ve gone to a museum by myself. Weird, right? Well, I discovered that I audibly oooh and aaaah about things if there’s anyone there to hear me or not. And that little dance I do when I see something I think is exciting? (Those of you who know me out here in the “real” world know what I’m talking about.) Yeah, that’s apparently just instinct or something, too. 😀 I imagine I looked like a loon, but I’m so, so okay with that.

Annnnd…because there were some delays for members of the group, I had time to catch a planetarium show about asteroids and dinosaurs…seriously good stuff!

The Past Week

This past week has been a bit of whirlwind. Grace finished up her final exams (we officially have a high school junior on our hands now!), and did very well on them. Well, she’s done very well on the three we know about. We’re still waiting on scores for one of her exams, but I’m guessing she rocked that one, too. I think we’re looking at another straight A semester. I’m so, so proud of her and all of her hard work!

I’ve also been continuing my efforts to revise, revamp, and renew the blog. I’ve had a couple of posts over the past week about plants…one about one of my most favorite places I’ve ever been, the Carnivorous Plant Garden in Wilmington, NC and one about the nearly magical (in my mind) Tillandsias.

Join the fun at Nerd in the Brain as we take a look at some of the amazing flesh-eating plants in the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden in Wilmington, NC.

I feel like things are finally, finally heading the direction that was originally intended…STEAM adventures! 🙂

This Weekend

This weekend is actually a pretty laid back affair…other than going to Wonder Woman and playing some disc golf, we have no solid agenda, and I’m totally content with that. (Next weekend? Yeah, that’s a different story.) I’m looking forward to using some time this weekend to catch up with my blogger friends!

Next Week

Next week is a bit sticky. It’s the first week of Summer break, so it’s the first week of not doing a “regularly scheduled” morning routine (no packing lunch or driving Grace to school or any of that stuff)…and the first week of our “regularly scheduled” activities going bonkers due to Grace’s nutty Summer schedule. (Things like piano classes going from once a week to once every two weeks…mostly…when we can make that fit into the schedule…fingers crossed.) Anyhoo, next week is all about falling into a new and temporary routine for dealing with Summer changes.

And what will that routine be accomplishing? Oh, so many things! Now that I’m getting the blog on the right track, it’s time to start putting lots of attention on my shops. I’m in the very beginning stages of “rebranding” every one of my products before moving on to the “creating new products” stage. It’s a doozy of a project, but I think it’s going to be really, really worth the effort. 🙂

Oh, and then there’s that whole return trip to Wilmington we have planned for part of next week! We decided that a few days in Wilmington would be the perfect way to do a combo celebration for Father’s Day and Grace’s birthday (guess who turns 16 on Tuesday?!?!?!?!). So, we’re going to load Grace and her BFF in the car and have a bit of a road trip.

(Spoiler alert on the highly likely, potential life plans of the Nerd in the Brain family: We’re very seriously considering moving to the Wilmington area after Grace graduates from high school. Honestly, we’d probably already be making plans to scoot that way if Grace didn’t love her school so much. Bonus? Wilmington is where Grace is planning to go to college…but that’s not why we’re moving there…we’re not those parents, I promise.) 😉

And You?

Okay, that’s been quite enough about me! What’s going on in your life? Anything fun or awesome planned for the weekend or the week ahead? Anything fantastic going on for the Summer break? Any big moving plans in your future? Tell me all about it! And be sure to share your own Weekend Coffee Share post by clicking on the linkup below:

And until we chat again, I hope you have an amazing week full of love and hugs and giggles and learning and fun! ♥

Exciting stuff there! Sounds like a perfectly fabulous weekend. I am loving this spring weather! I so wish I had a front porch. That would be my study area for sure! But this low humidity weather is short lived as it is supposed to be up in the 90s most of the upcoming week. My weekend will be spent mostly reading and writing and listening to recorded GoToMeetings. But first I am off to take a 4 mile hike around the lake.

Oh and the most exciting thing is in just over a week I will be boarding the plane to Dublin for the study abroad. So much reading to prepare. Sounds like once we get there we will be sitting in classes most of the time. So it’s prereading. We are staying at St Michael’s House which is described as a grand mansion built in the 1860’s. It is used as housing for the study abroad students for University of Dublin.

Ok I’m off! Have a great weekend!

I’m so excited for you about your trip to Dublin! I hope you post lots of pics on Facebook. 😀

I hope your hike was amazing…and all of your prep work. 😉

The last I heard, asteroids and dinos don’t mix very well 😉 I’m sure it was a good show, though. The weather here has been extremely odd too. Not thrilled about it, but today is a beautiful day! I hope you have a great week coming up and enjoy Wilmington.

No, the asteroids and dinosaurs did not play nice at all. 🙁 (It was a very interesting show, though!)

Things have gotten all “typical Southern Summer” here this week…stupidly hot and crazy humidity. *sigh*

Soooo looking forward to that Wilmington trip…now let’s just see if we can fit in all of the things we want to do while we’re there. 😉

I hope your upcoming weekend is a great one! (And sorry for being so woefully behind on comment responses.)

I love doing stuff by myself.

Enjoy some lazy days this summer, ok? 🙂

Yes, doing stuff alone can be super-fun! There’s something really nice about being able to do everything at your very own pace. 🙂

There will definitely be some lazy days this Summer…I know we have some camping in our future, and that makes for some super-lazy lounging during the day (because it’s too hot to do much of anything other than nap and loaf about). 🙂

Happy birthday to Grace! What a busy life you have. I think my daughter needs to start her own “Ladies Who Game.” My, does she ever love playing games, especially cooperative ones..

Thank you for the Grace birthday wishes!

Your daughter should totally start a group…so, so much fun to be had. 😀

I hope you’re having an absolutely beautiful week!

The gaming weekend does sound like a real good time. it is cool that you plan that from time to time. I went to Wilmington many years ago when I lived in Durham. I remember it was lovely..and there were excellent hush puppies. I too love museums and science, mostly botany. I can spend forever looking at exhibits. Thanks for coffee.

We are absolutely in love with Wilmington…I can’t wait to call the area home. 🙂 (I grew up in Raleigh, by the way…we were practically neighbors!)

Botany is so crazy interesting! When I started tinkering with things and going on field trips for this month’s blog theme of wacky plants, I was really surprised to find out how fascinating plants are. If you ever get back to Wilmington, you should totally check out the Carnivorous Plant Garden…it’s amazingly pretty and educational. 🙂

Weather has been a touch odd up here in Illinois, also. It was wet and cold, not my bag. Not many plants were happy, either =-) However, I hope we’ve dialed into those tropical breezes and temps now!
What types of games do you play? I miss face-to-face D&D. During the winter, I have time to play, however now, no way.
Am I to assume Wilmington, North Carolina? I love that state. Perfect weather to an Illinoisan or Goldilocks… Not too hot, not too cold 😉
Thank you for hosting! I’m glad I finally made it over here. I’ve been following Rowena @ Beyond the Flow for years, and reading her contributions. They’ve always produced coffee from my nose… Haha!!!
    Enjoy your weekend!!

Yep, Wilmington, NC. I’ve lived in NC all my life, and I had to laugh a bit about the “not too hot” bit of your comment. I’m thinking you’ve either never visited in Summer or you have an abnormal love for hot, humid, sticky weather. 😉

We play all sorts of games at our get-togethers. Everyone brings as many games as they’d like, and we just keep picking different ones to play. (Spades, Pandemic, Catan, Sushi Go, Code Name, Ticket to Ride, Zombie Dice, Cards Against Humanity, etc., etc., etc.)

I’m glad you made it here, too! I hope you’ll become a regular at the Coffee Share. 😀

Regarding the hot, sticky weather… Yes, after -16F, I’m all for some hot, sticky, bad hair days of summer! 😉

What are your thoughts on Wonder Woman? I went to see it on Wednesday and right now I feel like I am Wonder Woman In Training 🙂

I really enjoyed Wonder Woman! (I know there were some problems on the social commentary front…and, well, reality, but I thought it was pretty great.) I bet you’re every bit as awesome as Wonder Woman already. 😀

I hope you’re having an amazing week!

Weather here has been strange as well in terms of sudden shifts. Last week it was darn cold and rain – barely above 50 degrees. This week – 90s! My garden is so confused haha. Sounds like lots of busy summer plans coming for you! I relate; it’ll be strange but wonderful to have my kiddo home full time again for a few months! Though it does on a number on my freelance schedule. Did you enjoy Wonder Woman? I have so many thoughts on it that I’m writing up a blog post about it for tomorrow – I’m curious what you thought of it!

Yeah, these schedule changes we have for Summer are kind of brutal…and just as soon as we get used to them, it will time for the kids to go back to school. 😉

I thought Wonder Woman was fantastic (despite a couple of flaws)…I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on the matter. (And I’ll be doing that in just a few little minutes.) 🙂

Your trip to the museum sounds great. I love some time for myself and started craving it after a three day weekend. The rest of them to go back to school/work today. It’s MY house!

Oh, I hope you enjoyed that alone time! I adore my family, but if I don’t get some time and space to myself on a regular basis, I turn into a raging grumposaur. 😉

I hope you’re having a week full of fabulous! 😀
